Because of my extensive background in cosmetics with skin treatment, makeup and fragrances, I am often asked about how to take care of skin for a more youthful and healthy look. Several steps can be taken in order to achieve that look.

The first step is to learn about the different internal and external factors that cause visible signs of aging, such as dryness, dullness, and dehydration. These factors include smoking, pollution, poor diet, and too much sun.

The second step is to learn about the beneficial ingredients in skin care products. Nature has also provided us with healing botanical ingredients. For centuries, women have been using different natural homemade remedies for a more beautiful and youthful face. That is why many cosmetic companies have started using these natural ingredients, including wild yam, sea algae and soy, in their skincare products as well. Women have used citrus fruits such as lemons and oranges to minimize wrinkles for many years, and it has now been proven that vitamin C in citrus fruits has collagen-boosting ability. One of my favorite recipes, given to me by my grandmother, is to combine half a cup plain yogurt with 2 tsp. lemon juice. Lather up with a washcloth, and then rinse with cool water. The combination cleans, exfoliates and moisturizes. Another recipe she gave me was to rub my elbows and knees with half a lemon dipped in sugar, then rinse after 1 minute; this will soften the knees and elbows. The third step is to determine what type of skin you have. There are some simple self-exam techniques that can help you get to know your skin better. Knowing if you have sensitive, oily, dry, or dehydrated skin will help you choose the right product for your face. In future articles, I will teach you different techniques, so that you can use the proper products for that flawless and youthful look. However, always remember that a beautiful face starts with a beautiful inner self.
