IRVINE, CA – The Irvine Valley College Foundation announced today that the Anthony J. Sully Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to Skye Nicholson. The presentation was made by Irvine resident Dorothy Sully, who established the scholarship in memory of her late husband.
This scholarship is now in its third year of being awarded to a student who plans to transfer to a four-year university and who has financial need. Skye Nicholson, a resident of Irvine, is an administration of justice major. She will be graduating from Irvine Valley College next year and plans to continue her education at Cal State Long Beach. “My husband would be so proud to see this scholarship being awarded,” said Dorothy Sully. “Having been an educator during his professional life, he recognized the importance of a college education and how it helps people to get ahead in life.”
Dorothy was a junior high school teacher in Bakersfield, California when she first met her husband, Anthony “Tom” Sully. In 1955, they moved to Orange County, where Tom taught at a community college and Dorothy landed a job as a high school counselor. Together they raised three children, Ron, Gary and Susan, who continue to live in Orange County.
