First elected to the Irvine City Council in 2000, Beth Krom was re-elected as the top vote-getter in 2002. In 2004, she won her first term as Mayor of Irvine and in 2006 she was re-elected with nearly 60% of the vote — the highest margin of victory for any Irvine Mayor running in a contested race. Term limits prevented her from seeking a third term as Mayor, but in 2008 she did win a seat on the City Council, coming in first with an 27.8% lead over her next closest competitor.

Beth Krom has brought her experience as a teacher, a business owner, a community volunteer and a mother to her work as an elected official. An advocate for balanced planning, Beth Krom has focused on ensuring a sustainable future for Irvine, a city that has been recognized as one of America’s “greenest” cities.
Beth Krom currently serves on the boards of the Discovery Science Center and Arts Orange County and is a member of the advisory board for the University of California, Irvine Program in Sustainability. A strong communicator, Beth Krom has been an invited speaker at conferences on affordable housing, community land trusts and green-building. She has also given a Commencement Address at the University of California, Irvine.
Beth Krom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in education from the University of Texas, Austin. Married for 25 years, she is a former teacher, a mother and small business owner.
During her nine years in public service, Beth Krom has always been a strong advocate of the Iranian-American community. From attending different community events such as Mehreghan and Sizdehbedar, to voicing support for the pro-Democracy protestors in Iran, Beth has made a great effort to engage and be a part of the Iranian- American community. On August 20, 2009, the Iranian American community in turn joined hands in supporting Beth Krom’s campaign by attending an event entitled “Kabobs with Krom” which was held at the Caspian restaurant.
