It is time for the Iranian-American community to get more involved in the political system in the United States.
The Iranian-American community is highly educated and financially successful. Iranians are hard working, innovative and very talented. Since the 1979 Revolution, hundreds of thousands of doctors, scientists, artists and professionals have migrated to this country. The children of these educated, smart, and hard working people became perhaps the most informed, intelligent, educated, and gifted second generation ever. The young generation of these immigrant families possesses the better of the two worlds. They are caring, compassionate, and proud of their unique culture and history as well as being driven, goal-oriented, and educated. The young generation of Iranian-Americans are the future of not only this society but a unique generation that can be an influential instrument in changing the Iranian society inside Iran as well. All across America, Iranian professors are teaching in the universities, the gifted Iranian scientists and engineers are contributing to every space program and space mission. Iranian doctors are treating patients with their highest expertise. Iranian lawyers are working in federal and local courthouses. In the world of business and finances, Iranians are innovative and powerful.
If the Iranian-American community is contributing so much to improvement of science, education, art and economics in this society, they need to be recognized and have a good share of political positions, too. As a community we need to come together to become a political force in this society. Voting is the most important tool in this process. At this historic time in America, getting involved and voting is the duty of every Iranian-American. Our vote is our voice. The political candidates need to see us as an important community, like Italian-Americans, Hispanic-Americans Etc.
This is a crucial junction in the lives of Iranians inside and outside the U.S. Everyone who loves Iran and wishes for this ancient culture to continue to exist will be against any war and aggression towards Iran. A regime is not necessarily the best representative of a nation. Regimes come and go but nations survive. At this historic time, there is a chance for a fundamental change in the foreign policy of United Sates- a policy that advocates negotiations rather than guns- it is our duty to get involved. We need to stand up against the tyranny of gun policy anywhere by any government, group,or individual.
The war in Iraq needs to end, and we do not want another war in the Middle East. A vote in this election can be for world peace, saving the environment and bringing respect to humanity every where in the world. The vote is for our future and the future of our children. The choice is ours the opportunity is now.
