Beauty Tips for The New Year

The New Year is a good time to reevaluate and recreate your beauty routine and rituals.

Here are a few tips:

• Update your make up and skin care. The first thing is to go through your make up and throw away the ones who have been sitting in your drawer or cosmetic case for more than six to eight months. Skin care has a longer shelf life than make up so you can keep it as long as a year or two. Usually, the expiration date is on the cream and lotion boxes.

• Get a rested and healthy glow. A woman's face doesn’t look its best and beautiful unless she is rested and healthy. So add any kind of exercise such as walking in a park or practicing deep breathing which allows oxygen to flow through your body with ease and creates relaxation. Another wonderful way to relax is to add aroma therapy to your daily routine. As I mentioned in my prior articles, aroma therapy can change your mood instantly. If you are tired and have had a long day, try peppermint with grapefruit. This combination really wakes you up and makes you aware. In winter time, I love to burn candles with my favorite scents which are cinnamon and apple, while I am relaxing, listening to my favorite music, or reading a feel-good book.

• Instead of fearing old age and death, we should fear not living. I read this quote in a book a while back and it touched me. I had an epiphany thinking of famous older women who were beautiful in their totality. Women like Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, and Catherine Deneuve have inspired women by their grace. Shirley Temple and Vanessa Redgrave whose accomplishments beyond professional work have enhanced their beauty as they aged. And now a new generation of women like Oprah Winfrey, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pfeiffer, Michelle Obama and many not so famous have come along to exemplify grace and intelligence as they pass from one life stage to the next.

“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.”

Audrey Hepburn

“Style must be adapted to the woman and not vice a versa. The same can be said of clothes.”

Sophia Loren
